NY Fashion Week (NYFW)

The say “fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life”, if you strongly believe in this quote, then it is safe to say you wouldn’t risk missing LA Fashion Week, Miami Swim Week and of course, my favorite, New York Fashion Week. I had not had the opportunity to either walk the run walkway, network, or enjoy the shows as this bi-annual event for over 8 years. It was a joy to attend this year for work purposes as we had daily back-to-back meetings and I was honored to be able to view all major shows as a guest. In case you missed it this season, let me fill you in on trending styles, designers that stood out to me and my overall experience and opinions of the awe-struck event.

What did I see most this year among all designers? Pleather, fleece, and chiffon. Some of the best New York shows are by traditionalist, designers that have supplied more than a few extravagant styles now that the pandemic has been calming down and people are starting to strut the streets of colorful cities again.

“Silver and gold”, I saw numerous amounts of leather, pleather, and gold. Various designers have been pushing all gold jumpsuits, floor length skirts, and long flowing dresses. Altuzarra, is one of the major designers whose lines highlighted all regal looks in this fashion along with many up and coming designers that followed this lead.

A trend had spread like wildfire, and one that I was all in for, was the long, sleeked back statement-making ponytail. At the Sergio Hudson show among many others, pulled back tresses of models was the norm and put into a high-fashion tight ponytail. This is a look I will be adopting right away. I found it to be so sharp and classy, it truly highlights whatever outfit that is being worn… quite genius.

In the halls of the lower East Side’s old Essex market models – familiar faces including Okay Kaya and Hari Nef, along with editors and buyers anxiously awaited the new line. Eckhaus Latto celebrated their 10-year anniversary in fashion and highlighted layered mesh, sexy full sequined pieces, cargo pants with snake print mesh tops, this line was filled with surprise and burned a mark in my mind.

All lines had their own essence and individual flair. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all shows. Winter shows and Manhattan weather at an all-time low of 20 degrees Fahrenheit, secured my decision to layer. Black Jimmy Choo heel-less boots gave me the grace of walking all of SoHo, Chelsea, and Time Square with ease. I brought several scarfs and a plaid trench coat that easily paired with my various slacks and knit turtleneck sweaters or blouses. My goal was to dress with conservative sleek class and style. Overall, this was a great week with innovative, hardworking, brilliant creative minds. I look forward to fast forwarding to the next fashion world focused occasion.

LA Fashion Week (LAFW)

Held at the historical and impressive Petersen Automotive Museum, Hollywood Dream Machines are placed throughout every hall and every corner; antique pieces that are simply stunning. Take out your cameras ladies, because this spot is the spot to snap those perfect IG posts! It was a great honor to represent the current company I work with while attending this event. Showing up at LA Fashion Week (LAFW) is something I make a strong effort to do every year, however, it had been a few years since I partook in these evening events, so, I couldn’t wait to be a part of such an elegant and glamorous opening Gala.

This year LAFW 2019’s opening night featured two unbelievable designers. The first designers to grace the stage with their innovative and romantic designs was the Walter Collection designers. I noticed a common theme with their collection that falls right in line with the Spring season. A very fairytale like line, featured a lot of rousing and ruffles, and transported me to another world in another time. It was beautiful and an accurate representation of Spring. Colors ranged in pastels, mainly highlighting, gentle blush colors, creams, light hues of blues and some pastel purples.

The second designer to close the show was no one other than Naeem Khan. I’ve always adored his loud statement looks, with vibrant colors, risqué cuts, low plunged lines, high slit lines, and sequins galore! I feel his pieces speak so loudly, ensuring that all women are beautiful and that there is no reason for all women, of all shapes, sizes, and ages to embrace their bodies and to be bold! I greatly anticipated his show, and naturally nearly fell off my seat due to the extravagant styles and mind-blowing designs. His newest collection seemed very regal to me. I noticed a lot of deep red colors, dark greens and of course, his statement sequins did not vanish – which I was thrilled to see. After the dazzling show, my colleagues and I enjoyed mingling with many fashionistas, influencers, designers, models, and all others who are generally fashion lovers! Hors d’oeuvre’s and drinks filled the rooms and everything exceeded my expectations. Going backstage and interviewing the anxious and excited models before they hit the catwalk, along with the talented make-up artists was a blast. The entire team was so warm and welcoming and I look forward to attending LAFW 2020!

I have to give a massive shout out to NOWPRLA, for the incredible A-list celebrity gown that was sponsored for me to partake in this event. The gown was designed and created by the very talented Patty Ang, (you can find her at @alterierpattyang). This remarkable sexy take on a Cinderella dress, is halter shaped at the top. The entire bodice (bust-line to the waist-line) is completely covered in Swarovski crystals. The dress is made of white chiffons, and the skirt portion on this magical and glamorous gown quickly transforms into a sheer and gentle fabric that reaches the ankle, the dress ends with detailed crystal beading. It was an absolute dream wearing such a piece, and I will never forget it.

To top it all off, NOWPRLA hooked a sister up with some serious diamond covered earrings. Worth $66,000 total, these Maison Louella designed (you can find them @maisonlouella) earrings are glimmering and shimmering like no other. Again, I am so thankful and grateful for the gorgeous sponsored couture and diamonds, and I had the such a blast at this year’s LAFW! If you haven’t gone this year or any year, make sure you don’t miss out on the latest trends with friends, next year.

Huda Beauty's Mercury Retrograde Launch Party

This past Saturday (11/18/19) I had the honor of attending Huda’s launch party and to represent the company I work for, Impressions Vanity with a couple of colleagues. *No negative energy here, sorry Mercury*

I am going to be giving my honest opinion and only that.

Location - Location - Location!: Let me start with the venue and aesthetics of this event. The moment you walk into Popsicle Studios (where recent batman scenes have been shot) you don’t know what to expect. The area is dim and instantly reminds you of a secret speakeasy. After signing in with staff, a fluorescent neon room filled with smoke and large glowing crystals stand before you. Photo ops were in every corner and as you pass by the front room and walkway you access the studio. The team did an outstanding job at creating a dramatic look and feel with many smoke machines, and neon lights which made me feel like I was on another planet.

It’s All About the Details: Apparently this palette was created during Mercury Retrograde which typically represents things not going your way and overall chaos. But everything is going smooth as butter with this new gem of a palette on the market. At the event, delicious h’orderves were served throughout the night. Large varieties of fun small eats - Saturn looking sliders, desserts that all replicated the look of stars and planets were served and it was visually astounding. There were 5 different options in cocktails that were named after 5 of the palette names, and they were yummier than pie!

Good Vibes to Go: A CRYSTAL STATION, that’s right! Huda’s team held an activation with goodie bags and over 10 different stones were on display and of course, each stone represented different energy. Attendees could select their favorite four to take home and clear up and negative mercury retrograde juju. Could this station be any more clever? Before leaving the event, the Huda team passed out trending translucent backpacks with a small Huda branding and more goodies were kept inside! The groundbreaking palette was inside the beautiful bag, a set of chic eyeshadow brushes, a stunningly packaged Kay Ali perfume set, a beautiful nude lip gloss, and an adorable translucent makeup bag… were we spoiled or what?!

All Hail to the Queen: Meeting the sisters was unreal, there simply is no other way to put it. I am an enormous fan of them both and I was inspired by their class, elegance, kindness, and how they took the time to chat with every attendee and take photos. It was apparent that they really care. They sported bejeweled gowns with a large silver platinum belt and clearly ruled the galaxy.

The Sun Goes Down When the Stars Come Out: In conclusion, this launch party was creme de la creme. An intimate event of industry gurus who were all kind and welcoming. A hostess of the mostest with a very talented and hardworking team that genuinely put much love and thought into all the details, and (no surprise here!) amazing giveaways including Huda’s new palette to take home. I have tried the palette already and am rocking the vibrant “off-balance” color on my lid and “hot mess” in my crease for a fun dinner date and I feel like a galactic, sultry alien boss babe!

Thank you, Huda and the Huda Beauty team for one powerful, sassy, beautiful event that was OUT OF THIS WORLD!

XO

EM Cosmetics Pop-Up with Michelle Phan

EM Cosmetics Brow Launch with Michelle Phan

Being involved with Michelle Phan’s cosmetic lines event this past week was nothing short of incredible. EM Cosmetics just launched their newest brow line and have finally given fans a complete sneak peek. The event took place at the EM Cosmetics headquarters in Los Angeles. It was a blast! So much interaction… a photo station, multiple makeup stations, meet and greets, a station for personalizing all purchased items, a boba station and so much more! I am a true fan of Michelle fan and her tenacious entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve always felt any video she produced, any line she created, or event she threw was always a massive success; a detailed, informative, and impressive way to view and experience the beauty industry. Anything she touches turns to gold, and I am certain her new brow line will sell quicker than quick! The team was so generous and genuine; I was lucky enough to leave with a goodie bag filled with brow necessities. I immediately began using them and am addicted. I must say congrats to my new friends from the EM Cosmetics team and of course, to the mother of the makeup and beauty world, Michelle Phan.

Glitter Still Going Strong for Spring 2019!

There is no surprise to you, fashionista’s, that a glitter explosion took place the past few seasons and is still going strong. International designers are incorporating glam and shine in many of their statement pieces and they’ve been selling out like wildfire. We are all aware of the festival boom that takes place around this time of year, and glitter and rhinestones is not something the public shies away from. Drawing inspiration from the well-renowned Valentino and Pat McGrath, I sported a fully covered silver sequined studded mini-skirt from Express. I felt like not only is it the appropriate season to bring out the bling, but the best event to do so. My skirt cuts right above the knee adding a sophisticated feel and holds more of a loose fit as oppose to a skin tight look, which is why I felt completely comfortable wearing this item to what was a work event for me. This is a great example of when you want to stay trendy in the world of fashion, (which you can always do) and finding a happy medium to keep it classy. I completed my look with a Topshop charcoal colored blouse and a BCBG black blazer.
