If you’re focused on saving money or saving animals, faux fur reflects the current state of what’s hot right now in the fashion world. When it comes to man-made fur, names are endless: mock fur, fabric fur, imitation fur, etc.

However, the fashion industry found its preferred nomenclature at that moment when our beloved Cher Horowitz from Clueless announces “its faux, duh!”. This is a strong indicator that “faux fur” is dated from the early 90’s and is still as fantastic as ever!
Retro is in
“Faux fur is debatably one of the most political statement pieces one can include in their day-to-day wear.”
Faux fur is debatably one of the most political statement pieces one can include in their day-to-day wear. It is unbelievable, as you window shop you spot some sort of furry fashion, while it is also unescapable while relaxing behind on your couch and online browsing behind your computer, you’ll surely find faux everywhere you go. As much of an impact this has made on fashion and many individuals, there is something to be said about a fabric that is initially created to cheat Mother Nature.
Thanks to many activists, most brands offer faux fur items instead of, or in addition, to the real thing. Sure, real fur is stunning and super soft, but in my opinion, I prefer to not promote fur coats and believe faux fur is the way to go! Nowadays, the variety of styles and the top-notch quality is so good it is quite difficult to see the difference. Having a statement coat this winter is a must!
Here are some of my top reasons why you should opt for faux-fur instead of the real deal!
Affordable and trendy: This past New York Fashion Week, attendees and designers alike were spotted in faux fur, and they wore it loud and proud. Various fits, styles and neon colors were all being displayed for all to see and enjoy. Now, the high-fashion style has exploded and frankly, is hard to miss! You can find endless designs of faux fur online and in your favorite retail stores. Brightly colored and patterned faux fur was featured in vogue this year, so worry not to pick selections that emulate the real thing or to play it safe.
Unlimited variations in colors and styles: We are in the middle of the coldest time of the year and the best way to stay snug and feel glamorous is in a furry coat. Ranging anywhere from candy colored pastels to animal prints and oversize belted toppers, there's a plethora faux fur statement-making outerwear options you can pick from. Whether you're looking for wild zebra and leopard design, a gentle blush pink or light ice blue, or that classic jet black, you’re bound to locate your best faux fur coats at every price point and you can easily find what piece speaks to you and represents you best.
Runway worthy: As many of you know, there has been a massive shift with top leaders in the luxury fashion space placing a heavy focus on animal rights. This is taking place with most designers of luxury brands. But the anti-fur movement is growing far beyond the list of individual brands that have made the switch, due to the Council of the British Fashion who made the recent decision to ban any animal fur from any fashion show during London Fashion week.
Easy to deal with: These coats, bomber jackets, vests, etc. are typically made of synthetic fibers like acrylic or polyester, therefore, making faux fur very easier to take care of compared to actual fur. Depending on the outwear, some faux fur pieces need to be dry-cleaned, but breathe easy – most don’t. Just be sure to shake it well so the fibers don't become distorted, and hang it to dry. When paired side by side with real fur, faux fur may look even better after years of wear. Change of color and fading often occurs with real fur, and it is very difficult to manage and keep in its original form. When made well, synthetic fibers are actually more resilient and can stand up to frequent wear. You can treat your faux fur jacket the same way you would any other well cherished seasonal statement piece.
No harm to animals, whatsoever: This is the absolute biggest point in my book. Thankfully for the new anti-fur movement in the fashion industry most well-renowned designers are opting for faux fur and recognize how much harm has been caused to innocent animals in the past. With the new age version, the synthetic process used to create faux fur simply gets better and better! There are no certain guidelines designers must follow in order to stay true to the chosen alternative and be transparent with customers. Be cautious – SOME faux fur jackets, coats or vests are not always 100% synthetic so keep an eye out for that before purchasing.
Do whats right
“So yes, I’m one of those fashion people who loves animals and thusly do my best to be anti-fur..”
So yes, I’m one of those fashion people who loves animals and thusly do my best to be anti-fur. And no, I don’t judge others who choose to wear fur. What I adore about fashion, is that every woman is in charge of her own life and her own wardrobe. I do still wear leather jackets from time to time, so in full candor, I’m not 100% vegan when it boils down to my fashion decisions. Faux fur is significantly more affordable than the real deal with endless options. I hope you hop on the faux fur bandwagon if you haven’t and stay cozy during the winter, while looking as stylish as ever!
