The Simple and Sleek LBD

Slinky and classic; the little black dress (LBD) is an evening or cocktail dress, with simplistic styles and tends to be cut at the knee or slightly above. The "little black dress" has always been considered a “must-have” piece to complete wardrobe by women worldwide and thousands of fashion designers.

A classic never goes out of style

Gals globally should own a simple, elegant black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Taking it a step further, the color black is so rich in symbolism, this a color has been a strong symbol for romance and artistry since the turn of the 20th century. The iconic little black dress dates back to the 1920s. Coco Chanel was one of the first designers who pioneered with this versatile, and ever-lasting classic dress. Years later, was the birth of the black Givenchy dress, the dress of Audrey Hepburn when she played the memorable role of Holly Golightly in the 1961 romantic comedy, Breakfast at Tiffany's. The iconic cartoon character; Betty Boop, based in the 1920s, was drawn wearing a little black dress in her early films, which set some major trends. Yes, it is a cliché, the little black dress, but find me a better way to be sexy?

What I personally adore about the “LBD” is that it is perfect for all body types. If you are a pear-shape, or petite? Worry not! Styles are endless, and there should be no trouble for you to find your perfectly fitted and flattering classic dress. You can easily strut one to work, just throw on a blazer, or showcase one to a party, all you need to do to simply change some accessories. It's one of the most versatile dresses!

Why is the LBD important?

Surprisingly, I felt HOT (in both senses of the word… haha!) I strongly recommend this item for a day to night look! Girl, you got this in the bag!

The LBD is considered a closet staple and is an absolute essential because of its minimalism. Top international designers declare true style lies in form, not in major embellishments, fads and temporary trends. The “LBD” is a major statement piece representing effortless elegance, simplicity, and style. This timeless dress is so easy to wear it as it is, or dress it up with accessories or trendy jackets. Options are endless and this is why the “LBD” is a top “must-have” item in my collection. Why is the LBD important?

(1) Chic and sleek: Keep it lady-like but create a unique take on the traditional item by adding sheer black hose for an extra sexy polish. Stay away from large accessories, maybe a gentle, thin gold bracelet with small studs. Adding some light waves with your hair down will give off a very elegant and feminine feel.

(2) Comfy to the max: Switch out your pumps with sneakers and instead of a French roll, maybe let your hair down or try a big French side braid . If you want to go even more casual than that, maybe try your hair down and add a baseball cap for an extra sporty look!

(3) Rock star styles: Good girl gone bad? Release the naughty girl out by quickly flinging on a leather or motorcycle jacket paired with some black booties or take it to the next level with some thigh-high boots. This edgy vision is perfect for a casual get-together or for an evening out.

(4) Tradition and glamour: Simple can be the sexiest and nothing is wrong with keeping the traditional look with a LBD, there is a reason why it became so popular in the first place, right? Maybe add a little flare and wear a statement necklace. A bold chunky necklace instantly grabs the attention of others. If you opt for such a statement item, make sure to keep it calm with any other accessories so you still maintain a classy and glam look.

BEST DRESS STYLES FOR WOMEN’S COMMON BODY TYPES

(1) Pear Shape: Show off that smaller bust line of yours. Opt-in for a halter top styled LBD to showcase your best assets. Halters give off a clean look by showcasing the shoulders. Your hips look more modest and you’ll have a lovely balanced look.

(2) Petite: A sheath dress is perfect for you! The elongated vision of a sheath design makes you look lean and adds height tall. By keeping your LBD right at or slightly above the knee, you’ll be mind-blown about gorgeous all your favorite parts are highlighted perfectly. Stray away from too much details or patterns because they make come off as very overpowering.

(3) Apple Shape: Best styles for this shape would be an empire waist dresses or flared dresses, to bring in the waistline. What I love about the empire design is that it automatically draws your midsection in, and gives off a very slimming look. Flared dresses are great for this shape because it brings out the curves in all the right areas.

(4) Curvy: Black is always slenderizing and works well for curvy body types. Select a front plunge line, to add flattering cuts to your dress. Wrap dresses are always in style and are a good choice for this lovely body shape.

A rule of thumb for all gals is to select a style of LBD that showcases your best assets. If you need formal, try a midi length for variation. No matter your body type, there is an LBD for you! As seen in my featured photos below, I was going for a classic and semi-formal look. I was completely inspired by my absolute favorite actress in one of my favorite films, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In this situation, less is definitely more and sometimes simple reflects sophistication. This is my personal favorite take on the LBD, I can’t wait to see yours! Message me with your version of your stylized LBD look!
